I immediately suspect that one secret of these dark tears might well be that they ignore any substance which they touch on contact. i wonder of all that fume before the Mistress upon her siege perilous might not be a besotted suitor who knelt piously ay her feet, only to go up in smoke when a single lacrimal longing of the Lady landed upon a proffered hand.
